It may not be Super Bowl XXXII, or XXXIII, but you can see former Denver Broncos quarterback John Elway at play when he tees it up during the Celebrity Players Tour Atlantic City Celebrity Kids' Classic at the Blue Heron Pines Golf Club Aug. 26-29.

Elway will join, among others, Mike Schmidt, John Vanbiesbrouck, Johnny Bench, Mario Lemieux, Ivan Lendl, Jim McMahon, Brian Propp, Maury Povich, Rick Rhoden and Dan Quinn.

Last year Elway played in just two CPT events. He tied for fourth at the Isuzu Celebrity Golf Championship with a 54-hole total 2-under-par 214.

Elway's stroke average of 71.60 was third best among all CPT players in 1998. Tickets are $10 for the Aug. 26-27 celebrity/pro-am, $15 for the championship rounds, or $25 for a four-day pass. For ticket information or to be a volunteer call 609-383-8330.

Well done: The 12th annual Ann Ferren Golf Classic at the Tavistock Country Club on Aug.‚9 raised over $60,000 to help head injury victims, their families and head injury research.

Bill Givins of the Merchantville Country Club teamed with O.J. Juhl of the Deerfield Country Club to win the better ball of partners low gross with a 62. The Merchantville Country Club team of Bob Maneely and George Manos carded a 67 for second place. Flyers chief executive officer Ron Ryan and Dan Dunphy carded a 69 for third place.

Nathaniel Mayer and David Fuller carded a net 55 and edged the Olde York Country Club team of Bill Page and Hap Lucas on a match of cards to win the men's better ball of partners net division. The Philmont Country Club team of Arlen Tompkins and David Twombly finished third with a 56.

Christy Traenkle and Mary Jenesio teamed for an 83 to win the ladies' better ball partners gross division. Mary Ann Keenan and Maxine Munter placed second with an 88. The low net division went to KYW-TV 3's Robin Rieger and Merchantville Country Club's Cathy Giblin with a 54. Marcia Aloi of the Burlington Country Club and Colleen Atzinger finished second with a 61.

Maneely took men's individual low gross honors with a 67, followed by Juhl's 70 and Ryan's 72. Traenkle's 88 was low gross for the women.

Attraction II: Tom Watson and Hale Irwin will play a match at the Tournament Players Club at Jasna Polana (Princeton) on Sept.‚28, as part of Shell's Wonderful World of Golf Series. For information call 215-615-0510.

Pebble Beach, too: Dom Virelli of Bellmawr, Robert Pendino of Cherry Hill, Robert Filipe of Yardley, Pa. and Michael Francomb of Secane, Pa., teamed for a 13-under-par 58 for top honors during the Cadillac Invitational Golf Tournament at the Trenton Country Club on Aug.‚2. The foursome now goes to the National Finals at Pebble Beach in January. They won the title two years ago.

Happy birthday: Percell Berkley of Voorhees gave himself a very special gift on his birthday, when he used a pitching wedge on the par 3, 122-yard 5th hole for a hole-in-one at the Kresson Golf Club on Aug. 6.
