The Kostantinos Scholarship Foundation was established in 1993 to recognize the career of K. Kiki Kostantinos … teacher, coach, athletic director and superintendent of the Lenape Regional High School District from 1963 until his retirement in 1993.
Through contributions, and fund-raising events such as the July‚26 Kiki Open (7th annual) golf tournament at Little Mill Country Club, $75,500 has been given in scholarships to graduates of the Lenape Regional District's three high schools … Lenape, Shawnee and Cherokee. This year, a scholarship was added for the District Evening School.
Recipients this year:
From Lenape, Sayani Niyogi, Neerav Agrawal and John Briggs. From Shawnee, Matthew Segneri, Aaron Daub and Vanessa Grunkemayer. From Cherokee, Brian Conley, Anne Chung and Kristen Watson. From District Evening School, Caryn Fayer.
At the tournament, the team of Bob King, Pete McCaffrey, Joe Gredesky and Tom Gredesky carded an 11-under-par 72 to take top honors. The team of Frank Bodine, Brian Blaine, Kathy Blaine and Al Padovanno and the team of Bob Metz, Dave Salvo, Fred Keaton and Calvin Black tied for < End of Column # 1 >
second place at 10-under.
Of special note: The Camden County American Red Cross annual Trick or Treat Golf Tournament at Valleybrook Golf Club on Oct.‚13, has a special meaning (call 365-7100, ext.‚18).
This year's tournament is dedicated to the memory of the late Howard Haas, a 35-year volunteer who passed away in June. Haas was stricken with a fatal heart attack at a United Way meeting. He was a former postmaster and Cherry Hill councilman.
Repeat: Mike Hyland of the Little Mill Country Club carded a 2-under-par 70 at Ramblewood Country Club on Aug.‚2 to retain his crown as the South Jersey Men's Golf Association Amateur Champion. Lance Oberparleiter (74) of Wedgwood Country Club edged Alex Helm of Hammonton Country Club and Ray Fuller of Pitman Golf Course on a match of cards for second place.
For the juniors: The Atlantic County Park System and the South Jersey Junior Golf Foundation have developed a junior clinic for youngsters 9-14 at the John F. Gaffney Green Tree Golf Course in Egg Harbor Township.
There will be two five-day sessions, Monday through Friday, beginning at 2 p.m. The first session will be Aug.‚9-13. The second will run Aug.‚16-20. Fundamentals of the golf swing, putting, rules, etiquette and course care are part of the program. Call 609-625-9131.
Help wanted: Volunteers are needed for the Atlantic City Celebrity Kids' Classic at Blue Heron Pines Golf Club, Aug.‚26-29. The Celebrity Kids' Classic is one of 13 stops on the Celebrity Players Tour. Featured players include Rick Rhoden, Brian Propp, Johnny Bench, Rudy Gatlin, Mike Schmidt, Mario Lemieux, Ivan Lendl, John Vanbiesbrouck and others. Call 609-383-8330.
