TOURNAMENT TALES/HOLES IN ONE

SOUTH JERSEY TOURNAMENT TALES

•  Seth Hirschhorn of Willingboro carded a 77 for top honors in the boys 14-15 bracket during the Philadelphia Section PGA 2000 Junior Tour at the State College (Pa.) Elks Country Club on Aug.‚8.

•  Joe April of Sewell shot an 82 for second place in the boys 14-15 bracket, five strokes behind winner Thomas Hart of Oreland, Pa., at the Philadelphia Section PGA Junior Tour at Tofttrees Country Club on Aug.‚7.

•  Adam Carlson of Mays Landing shot a 44 (nine holes) for top honors in the boys 10-11 age bracket during the Philadelphia Section PGA 2000 Junior Tour at Medford Village Country Club on Aug.‚2. William Hoese of Sicklerville was third with a 48. Tom Merriam of Moorestown shot a 91 to win the boys 12-13 bracket, followed by Walker Kelly of Woodbury Heights with a 93.

April took top honors in the boys 14-15 bracket with a 76, followed by Kevin Kaufman of Willingboro with a 77. David Henry of Medford shot a 77, besting Jeff Dorne of Little Egg Harbor on a match of cards to win the boys 16-18 title.

•  The Laurel Creek Country Club team of John DiMarco, Barry Tuman, David Butler, Ken Soffer and Brett Mosgowsky combined for a 27-under-par 115 and top honors on a match of cards in the 2 net best balls of 5 finals division during the Philadelphia Section PGA Woodcrest Country Club Invitational Pro-Am at the Woodcrest Country Club on Aug.‚1. The Pitman Golf Club team of Orist Wells, Larry Burns, Stan Lerner, Mac Lerner and Irv Richter placed second. The Greate Bay Golf Club team of John Appleget, Marc Levin, Losi Asbell, Jack Lutz and Patrick Lucas was third with a 23-under 120. Ken Peyre-Ferry of the Little Mill Country Club took senior honors with a 2-over 73.

Dave Quinn of Quinn and Hammond Golf took the individual pro purse with a 3-under 68. John DiMarco of the Little Mill Country Club tied for second place with Terry Hertzog of the Gulph Mills Golf Club with 2-under 69s. George Frake II of the Little Mill Country Club shot a 1-under 70 for a share of fourth place with Don DeAngelis of the Philadelphia Golf Academy. Dick Smith Jr. of Woodcrest, Greg Farrow of Deerwood Country Club and John Appleget of Greate Bay carded even-par 71s to share sixth place.

•  Adam Carlson of Mays Landing carded a 47 for nine holes to finish second in the boys 10-11 and girls 10-12 combined age bracket during the Philadelphia Section PGA 2000 Junior Tour at the Marriott Seaview Bay Course on July‚26. Will Godwin of Swarthmore, Pa., won with a 46. Jamie Wallace of Moorestown shot a 78 for third place, one stroke behind winner Tim Porter of Wilmington in the boys 14-15 age bracket. Jeff Michner of Ocean View took second with a 76, two strokes behind winner Bill Fitzgerald of Philadelphia in the boys 16-18 age bracket.

HOLES IN ONE

• Edward Lambert of Collingswood used a 5-wood on the par-3, 160-yard 17th hole. at the Kresson Golf Course on Aug.‚4.

• Todd Arsenault of Williamstown used a 9-iron on the par-3, 169-yard 2nd hole at the Freeway Golf Course on Aug.‚2.
