TOURNAMENT TALES

Tom Hyland carded a 77 to win the South Jersey Golf Association's Harry S. Rutherford Memorial Men's Amateur Championship on Tuesday at the Ballamor Country Club. Second place went to Tom Gramigna with a 78. Bill Murray was third with a 79, followed by Marty Agger (80), Meredith Henry Jr. (80), Bill Milner (80), Tim Dolan (80), Gary Gipp (81), John Willadsen (81) and Bill Mac Avoy (81).

Edward Williams carded a 68 to win the 32nd annual Bill Bishop Classic at Freeway Golf Club on Aug. 1. Frank Eaton scored a 69 for second place, followed by David Pernell (70) and George Bradford (80).

The Centerton Golf Club team of Dave Quinn, Jeff Swetland, Frank Donnelly, Joe Schlindwein and George Widas posted a 15-under par 30-28-58 for top honors and a trip to the national championship at Disney World in October during the PGA of America Buick Scramble at Blue Heron Pines West Golf Club on Aug. 1. Also qualifying for the nationals was the Sea Oaks Golf Club team of Jeff Bonicky, Dino Stathis, David Wicki, Steve Noto and Bob Stohrer, which posted a 14-under par 31-28-59 and won a in a chip-off (19-8) after tying in its division with two other teams.

The Twining Valley Golf Club (Dresher, Pa.) team of Will Reilly, Charles Goldstein, Len Becker and Eric Becker carded a 20-under par 57-63-120 for top honors during the Philadelphia Section PGA Jay Z. Levin Memorial Pro-Am Tournament at the Radnor Valley Country Club (Villanova, Pa.) on July 31. The Burlington Country Club team of Vince Ramagli, Jeff Sepesi, Lou Heidelberger and Jay Ciccarone posted a 19-under 61-60-121 for second place. Ramagli carded a 33-35-71 for third place in pro individual gross play. Radnor Valley Country Club's George Foster took top honors with a 33-34-67.

Harry Buzhardt III (82) placed third in the boys' 16-18 division during the Philadelphia PGA Section 2002 Junior Tour at the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort on Aug. 1. Logan Terry (80) of Plymouth Meeting, Pa., took first.

Ray Owens of Ocean City carded a 75 for top honors in the boys' 16-18 division during the Philadelphia Section PGA 2002 Junior Tour at the Medford Village Country Club on July 31. Harry Buzhardt III of Somerdale posted a 76 for second place. Steve Thomas of Southampton was third with a 78. David Sanders of Mount Laurel carded a 40 (9 holes) for top honors in the boys' 10-11 and girls' 10-12 combined division. Michael Vergall (46) of Haddonfield was second. Frank Berzanskis (48) of Egg Harbor Township was third. Joseph Yoo of Philadelphia posted an 87 to win the boys' 12-13 division. Timothy Kravitz (88) was second. Matt Raudenbush (91) of Pine Valley was third. Joseph Orisno of Bensalem, Pa., carded a 76 to take the boys' 14-15 division. Michael O'Keefe (77) of Medford was second. Stephen Sieracki (80) of Cherry Hill was third.

HOLES-IN-ONE

John Weaver of Silver Spring, Md., used a 6-iron on the par-3, 160-yard 15th hole at the Brigantine Golf Links on Tuesday.
James J. McLaughlin Jr. of Haddon Heights used a 3-iron on the par-3, 182-yard 12th hole at the Ron Jaworski's Valleybrook Golf Club on Monday.
Ben Mancarella of Media, Pa., used a 7-iron on the par-3, 152-yard 12th hole at the Buena Vista Country Club on July 13.
W. Kwang Song of Millville used a 5-wood on the par-3, 185-yard 5th hole at the Buena Vista Country Club on July 13.
Joe Smith of Brigantine used a 6-iron on the par 3, 150-yard 7th hole at the Brigantine Golf Links on July 22.
Mike Beare of Laurel Springs used a 3-wood on the par-3, 180-yard 18th hole at the Maple Ridge Golf Club.
