Tournament Tales

Frank Berzanskis of Egg Harbor Township carded a 45 (nine holes) for top honors in the boys' 10-11 years old and girls' 10-12 (combined) division during the Philadelphia Section PGA 2001 Junior Tour at the Avalon Golf Club on Tuesday. Heather Petronis of Cape May posted a 50 for second place. Kyle Raudenbush of Pine Valley was third with a 54. Adam Carlson of Mays Landing posted an 83 for top honors in the boys' 12-13 division. Matt Raudenbush of Pine Valley placed second with an 85. Peter Veciferro of Thornton, Pa., took top honors in the boys' 14-15 division with a 74. John Borrell, Jr., of Port St. Lucie, Fla., was second with a 76. Michael O'Keefe of Medford placed third with a 77. Joe April of Sewell posted a 73 for top honors in the boys' 16-18 division. Anthony Martire of Absecon was third with a 74. Ryan Owens of Ocean City was third with a 75. Seema Patel of Cherry Hill carded an 82 for top honors in the girls' 13-18 division.

Bob Leeman (35-33-68) of the Conestoga Country Club defeated Rich Steinmetz of the Spring Ford Country Club on a one-hole playoff for top honors during the Philadelphia Section PGA Inaugural Conestoga Classic at the Conestoga Country Club (Lancaster, Pa.) on Monday. George Frake of the Little Mill Country Club also posted a 68 (33-35), but decided to skip the playoff. Dave Quinn (34-35-69) of the Centerton Golf Club and Ken Peyre- Ferry (35-34-69) of the Links Golf Club shared fourth place. Peyre-Ferry (69) took top honors in the Senior Division.

  • LeBaron Robinson of Cherry Hill used a 6-iron on the par-3, 150-yard 4th hole at the Tavistock Country Club on Sunday.
  • Rita Shannon of Cherry Hill used a 7-iron on the par-3, 94-yard 15th hole at the Pennsauken Country Club on Saturday.
  • Thomas Sloan used a 5-wood on the par-3, 193-yard 3rd hole at the Maple Ridge Golf Club on June 18.
  • Patrick Daley of Swedesboro used a 6-iron on the par-3, 164-yard 2nd hole at the Pine Hill Golf Club on June 18.
  • Jim Doyle of Cherry Hill used a 5-iron on the par-3, 168-yard 16th hole at the Tavistock Country Club on June 16.
    Of Note:
    Reconstruction at the Indian Spring Country Club has been completed. Charges are: reconstruction of 16 tee boxes, including the addition of forward tee boxes. Reconstruction and addition of greenside and fairway bunkers. Addition of berms (mounds) throughout the course. The installation of a triple-row irrigation system and pump station.
